Beeper, the universal chat app that made waves when it was first introduced in 2021, has officially exited beta testing and is now available to the public as of April 9th. This messaging app aims to simplify your digital communication by integrating all your messaging platforms into a single super app.
The acquisition of Beeper by Automattic, the company behind WordPress, marks a significant milestone. According to Beeper CEO Eric Migicovsky, this move was driven by the need for a strong ally with the resources to support Beeper’s mission in the ever-evolving messaging landscape.
Under the new deal, the entire Beeper team joins Automattic while maintaining their independence. Migicovsky assumes the role of Automattic Head of Messaging.
Notably, Beeper previously introduced iMessage integration through Beeper Mini, but Apple swiftly blocked their methods of enabling iMessage service within Beeper.
The revamped Beeper now connects to 14 different chat platforms, accessible both on mobile and the web. These include popular services like Google Messages (RCS), which Apple plans to adopt later this year. Additionally, Beeper integrates with Instagram, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord, Slack, and more.
Security-conscious users will appreciate Beeper’s commitment to end-to-end encryption for Signal, WhatsApp, and all e2ee network bridges.
You can download Beeper from the Google Play Store or visit beeper.com/download to install it on various platforms, including ChromeOS, macOS, Windows, and Linux. However, the iOS version of Beeper has yet to receive the update and currently does not support iMessage directly. Despite this, Beeper remains optimistic about the future of its universal chat app. In fact, in March, the US government sued Apple for blocking Beeper Mini’s access to iMessage
