President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the National Launch of the eGov PH Super App and the National Information and Communication Technology Month Kick-off Ceremony in Malacañang, emphasizing the need for rapid development of interconnectivity infrastructure and digitalization to stimulate the economy and combat corruption. He acknowledged that the country must catch up with e-governance, as 95 percent of daily activities, such as shopping and government payments, are now conducted online. The President envisioned a future where even senior citizens living in remote areas could easily transact using their phones once connectivity is established.
President Marcos considered the event a significant step towards digitalizing the bureaucracy, encompassing both national and local government units. He commended the proactive efforts of local governments in digitalizing themselves and highlighted the importance of consolidating these systems to facilitate seamless communication and efficient business transactions between citizens and the government. He expressed his delight at the government’s digitalization direction and emphasized its potential to reduce corruption and streamline processes for the benefit of the people.
The President stressed the crucial role of public-private partnerships in successfully implementing the digitalization initiative and ensuring cybersecurity. He recognized the concerns of the private sector, especially regarding cybersecurity, and called for their involvement in the endeavor. He congratulated the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) for developing the first e-governance app and pledged to further enhance its capabilities to position the Philippines competitively in the global market.
The eGov PH Super App offers Filipinos access to desirable government services, including digital identification, essential government services, tourism and travel services, banking and payment services, and useful news and information. President Marcos anticipated future expansions and improvements to the app through version updates. The event marked a significant milestone in the country’s journey towards digitalization, enabling greater convenience, transparency, and efficiency in governance.
