After users stormed Converge ICT’s Facebook, Twitter, and customer service hotlines yesterday because of a major internet outage last Tuesday, the company is taking steps to make sure that never happens again.
The outage experienced earlier this week was because of a power-related issue, and resulted in a major outage that affected a fairly large swath of the company’s subscriber base from users in Metro Manila to users as far as Baguio City. The company eventually restored its services Wednesday morning, but not after they trended in social media.
Because of this, founder and Chief Executive Officer, Dennis Anthony H. Uy wants to make sure that something like this never happens again and is looking to create a secondary data center within the month.
“We decided last night, the management team, to create another data center, para hindi na maulit (to prevent this from happening in the future),” Uy said in an interview with BusinessWorld. To remedy the problem “we immediately laid down 45 million of new cables to bypass this route, para maayos agad yan (to fix it immediately),” Uy added.
The new data center will serve as a redundancy site to prepare for a similar problem in case it happens again in the future. “Hopefully before Christmas… Our long term solution is to provide protection and redundancy to all the networks, so we have an action plan already,” he explains.
