Ookla, a global leader in fixed broadband and mobile network testing applications, recently released data based on their analysis of mobile speed test results taken with Speedtest from Q1 to Q4 2019 on smartphones powered by Smart Communications and Globe Telecom SIM cards in key cities in the Philippines.
The result showed that in Metro Manila, Quezon City, and Makati City, Smart Communications delivered faster download and upload speeds, on average, as shown in the table above.
Smart’s speeds were fastest in Makati City with 29.06 Mbps Download Speed and 12.30 Mbps upload speed. In Quezon City, Smart’s average Download Speed was 28.26 Mbps Download Speed while Upload Speed was 10.37 Mbs. Finally, in Metro Manila, Smart delivered 28.02 Mbps Download Speed and 10.89 Mbps Upload Speed, on average.
Interestingly, Ookla’s data showed that Globe’s average mobile speeds in those cities were less than half of what Smart delivered in the said period. In Makati City, Globe had 13.66 Mbps Download Speed and 5.23 Mbps Upload Speed. In Quezon City, on average, Globe subscribers to ran Speedtest enjoyed 12.47 Mbps Download Speed and 4.99 Mbps Upload Speed. Lastly, in Metro Manila, on average, Globe’s Download Speed was 12.06 Mbps and Upload Speed was 4.78 Mbps.
With 3,679,687 Speedtest results on 585,700 mobile devices, Ookla concluded that the average Download Speed in its test areas in the Philippines was 15.16 Mbps while the average Upload Speed for all users who ran the test – using Smart and Globe SIM cards – is 6.78 Mbps.
Given its findings based on hard numbers, Ookla awarded Smart Communications as the Philippines’ Fastest Mobile Network in Q1-Q4 2019.
According to Ookla, “Smart is the Philippines’ Speedtest Awards Winner for mobile network speed. To win this award, Smart achieved a Speed Score of 17.40 with average speeds for 19.62 Mbps for download and 9.45 Mbps for upload.”
