It is always insightful learning from Jack Ma. I have seen most of his interviews online, but the interview in DLSU may be one of the more refreshing insights you can get from him. The event started with a speech from Jack Ma, followed by an interview by the students then interview with Joey Concepcion. It’s an overwhelming audience, you have Ernest Cu(CEO of Globe Telecoms), Inanc Balci (CEO of Lazada PH), Nix Nolledo (Xurpas CEO) and many others in the audience.
In his speech, Jack Ma stressed out the importance of mobile technology. How it will be our gateway for connecting everyone, especially with 7,101 islands in the Philippines. Government, entrepreneurs and private sector should working together towards this goal.
Panel interview with the students
During the interview with the students 2 key things I remembered the most, DETERMINATION and PREPARATION. We all know that there is no overnight success. Going into business is like going into battlefield, it is important that you survive.
One on one interview with Joey Concepcion

Many traditional brick and mortars are afraid of adapting technology. There will always be hesitation, but in the end change is inevitable. What traditional business should be afraid are not the competitors but how they adapt to the future.

“Small entrepreneurs should have big dreams and big companies should have small steps.”

“Opportunities come from the area where most people complain. If you see people complain, you have the opportunity”
When asked about Jack Ma’s biggest mistake, it was about hiring the smart people. According to Jack Ma, hiring the best people, it destroyed them. It is like putting a 747 Boeing machines in to a truck. It’s about hiring the right people and making them the best.
