By now you’ve probably heard about Alibaba and the man behind it Jack Ma. With the recent IPO for Alibaba, he’s now the richest man in China.
With all the youtube videos I’ve seen and articles read about Jack Ma, I’d like to share my top learnings from him.
1. When you have one million dollars, you’re a lucky person. When you have 10 million dollars, you’ve got trouble, a lot of headaches. When you have more than one billion dollars, or a hundred million dollars, that’s a responsibility you have—it’s the trust of people on you, because people believe you can spend money better than the others.
It’s very enticing to have that much money, but with that amount of wealth also come with great responsibility. Like Steve Jobs would say, people are paying you to think of new products for them. They just don’t spend for the hardware/software, it’s beyond that.
2. “On the path to success, you will notice that the successful ones are not whiners, nor do they complain often.”
Don’t keep on complaining with what you have, instead maximize what you have to build greater things.
3. “Ebay is a shark in the ocean. We are a crocodile in the Yangtze river. If we fight in the ocean, we will lose. But if we fight in the river, we will win.”3.
You don’t usually fight head to head with big companies, there are a lot of opportunities find a niche and focus from there.
4.[Fall] in love with the government, don’t marry them — respect them
Dealing with governments is such a complicated tasks, obey the rules, but don’t get involved in politics.
5.”“Today is tough. Tomorrow is much tougher. But the day after tomorrow is beautiful. And most people die tomorrow evening.
Don’t give up easily, each day gets tougher and tougher but when you finally get there you know it’s all worth it.
