Surprise! there was a Microsoft event just a few hours ago! Here are the things you need to know about the event.

Windows 10 will be free to all Win 7 and 8.1 users.
-No expiration
-Free upgrade only to windows 7 & up users
-You will only have free updates upto 1 year, but you can still continue to use after

Windows 10 now features a more streamlined start menu and taskbar, UI overhauls to the settings and Control Panel, ability to expand the start menu to full screen, more security and privacy options, and deep Cortana integration on the PC.

We all hate Internet explorer, so Microsoft is rebranding it’s browser with codename project spartan.

As we saw in some leaks earlier this month, Windows is replacing the much-maligned Internet Explorer with a new browser codenamed Project Spartan, designed for Windows 10.

  • “note-taking mode” that lets you draw all over pages with a stylus or add comments with a keyboard, then save the results on OneNote.
  • “reading mode” does what you might expect: it formats a page like a book and adds a syncable reading list that’s basically “Pocket for Microsoft” or Safari’s page-saving feature.
  • Spartan has Cortana built into it, contextually recognizing information like restaurants or plane flights and offering extra information.
HoloLens, powered by Microsoft’s Windows Holographic software.

Microsoft HoloLens is touted as the first fully untethered holographic computer, and is equipped with see-thru, high-definition lenses, spatial sound, and advanced sensors. To make up most of the holographic experience, the Redmond giant added a third processor it calls the HPU, or Holographic Processing Unit, enabling a more seamless visual experience. This holographic technology is developed by Microsoft along with NASA, USA’s space agency.

Others:

  • Cortana, Microsoft’s personal digital assistant, is coming to the PC. Long available on mobile, Cortana will now live next to the start button on the task bar and serve as a natural-language interface for Windows 10.
  • Microsoft demonstrated its vision for getting all its Windows 10 PCs, tablets, and phones to work well together. Unified Office, the phone and tablet versions of which look very similar to the desktop one.
