Marketing or digital marketing has changed a lot in the last 5 years, back in 2009, there’s no such thing as social media campaigns or QR code marketing. As Donald Lim would state it, “regardless of how good you are, no product is as perfect that it would sell itself”
Here are some few reminders for your marketing strategies
1. Limited advertising budget
You can still implement a marketing strategy even if you have a limited budget. And you need to – as James Caan says, you don’t have a business until people are aware of it. If you can’t afford to place ads of a sufficient size and repetition in the local newspaper, radio station and other mass media, try starting out with relationship marketing instead.
In today’s business maximize what you have and what is free. Social media is one of the biggest contributor to digital marketing but despite that people tend to ignore that social media is free. Spending Facebook ads or google adwords are just supplements to your content marketing and engaging your customers.
2. Digital marketing is not everything, at least not yet
Digital marketing is not as big as traditional marketing yet, if you compare advertising on TV vs online ads, you’ll probably still get a huge mileage for on air advertisements. The secret there is you create awareness through the traditional media (print, radio, tv, etc) because admit it or not it still gives huge exposure, and lead them to digital, where you create engagement and close the deal.
3. Establish a good branding for your product
People tend to think that marketing is all about announcing to the world to buy your product/service, it’s just a part of the whole marketing plan.
“Your advertising should bring together the collective message of your brand. Startups have the benefit of being free and unbound by the constraints faced by large corporates when it comes to advertising. Have some fun with how you choose to advertise your business and capture your target customers’ attention. Think creatively. Once you have thought about the message that you want to promote, consider where you are going to place this message.” – James Caan
4. Give the experience
Marketing for me is all about the experience, it’s all about the consumer. Every marketing campaign you implement is an emotional connection between your brand and the consumer. Please please do not create a campaign that only focuses on saying to buy this and that, it’s how you message it to your customers.
Sample marketing objectives:
- Create awareness on your product
- Increase customer registrations
- Increase conversion sales
- Have your customers try your product
- Acquire new customers
- Get customer usage
Marketing objective is not:
- Get 100,000 new facebook likes, make a viral video, etc.
- Get sales in general
