It’s the time of the year where we reflect on what happened this 2013 (article here) and look forward to 2014. Here’s my quick forecast on what’s in store for us in tech this 2014.
Cheaper smartphone
The battle for a cheaper smartphone will continue, well at least for Android. Tons of new Android devices are being sold everyday, and prices are going lower and lower while having higher specs and bigger screens.
Wearable Tech
It’s a given, we’ve already had a “taste” for wearable gadgets this 2013, with Google Glass and Samsung Galaxy Gear beginning to be more reliable. The question is who will break the barrier for to make wearable gadgets more natural for the consumers.
Social Media
How about social media? will the new types of social media dominate this 2014? Snapchat, pinterest, etc? What we can only say is more and more people share content today than before, with the rise of content to consume, it will be a battle on how simple and easy we consume content for 2014.
Bigger Smartphone/Tablets
Bigger screens for smartphone…. and probably tablets. Smartphones are getting bigger and bigger, 4inch screen is the new “standard” size of screen. But will it also mean bigger screens for tablets? Who knows there are already several articles floating around for a bigger iPad this 2014.
Curved screens
LG has recently released their curved smartphone screen. It is interesting to know that screens are no longer based on the resolution or size. Manufacturers now will think of a way on how we maximize the curved screen.
There are also some exciting changes happening with the biggest tech companies.
Steve Ballmer retires as Microsoft CEO
Everyone is excited to know who will finally replaced Steve Ballmer as Microsoft CEO. It’s been a challenge for the team leading the search given the 1 year timeframe Steve Ballmer gave before retiring.
Apple enters China market
Apple has always been struggling to enter the China market. With an agreement of Apple finally entering the China market this Jan. 2014 through the iPhone, it will surely increase a significant part of their market share.
Will BlackBerry survive?
Will Blackberry finally give in? will 2014 be the year BlackBerry declares Bankruptcy? Or is someone finally acquiring BlackBerry? or will the recently hired CEO, John Chen, finally turn things around?
