Cardinal Santos Medical Center recently acquired InMotion Robots that provide rehabilitation technology for the therapy of patients with stroke, multiple sclerosis, and other neurological conditions.
CSMC is the first hospital in the Philippines to have this technology and equipment. This technology was developed through research in medical engineering at the Newman Laboratory for Biomechanics and Human Rehabilitation at the Massachussetts Institue of Technology.
The InMotion Robotic System is interactive and is able to respond to a patient’s changing ability and capacity. It is also capable of precise and intensive exercises. The interactive robots apply repetitive tasks to help patients regain normal movement and function. The InMotion Robots available in the Rehabilitation Medicine Center are:
• Shoulder-Elbow Robot helps improve elbow and shoulder control.
• Wrist Robot allows three degrees of movement. It can be adjusted for use of pediatric patients as well. • Hand Robot helps patients with “grasp, release, and pinch” exercises.
The CSMC Rehabilitation Medicine staff recently underwent training for the use and application of the InMotion Robotic System. (Photos above) To learn more about robot-assisted therapy at CSMC, you can call the CSMC Rehabilitation Medicine Center at 727-0001 local 4111 or 725-3167.
