2012 I think was one of the more challenging year for the tech companies. With Apple operating under Tim Cook’s leadership, Facebook finally becoming a public company, Marissa now sitting as Yahoo’s new CEO, key players leaving Microsoft and Apple, Samsung – Apple patent wars, and a whole lot more!

This might be the year when Samsung had most of the things going it’s way, and between Apple and Samsung, I’d go Samsung winning this year.

What was missing this year?
NFC

It’s been a long time since everyone started talking about NFC. Tech geeks were actually hoping iPhone 5 would make it mainstream, but unfortunately Apple thought NFC might not be ready yet. The way I look at NFC is like Bluetooth, it’s something you look for but actually rarely used it.

BlackBerry

It is slowly going to it’s own grave. I guess it’s just a matter of time we completely forget BlackBerry. They are still releasing new products next year, but a lot of catching up to do.

Higher MegaPixel for Phone Cameras

Despite the release of Nokia’s 808 pureview with a 41mp phone camera, other phones didn’t really increased the 8mp phone cameras. 8mp phone cameras were there since early 2011, so I wonder why they didn’t made a higher camera. Is it the hardware limitation? or probably having 8mp phone camera is just the right size.

Goodbye netbooks

As Steve Jobs would say, netbooks were destined to fail right from the very start. It was a short run for netbooks and probably only 3 gadgets would remain for a longer time: smartphones, tablets and laptops.
Smartphones > Tablets > Laptops > Desktop PC
