On Saturday afternoon during PAX 2012,Konami’s Hideo Kojima gave attendees a special first-look at “Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes” by showing off 15 minutes of gameplay footage – find the video of “Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes” right here.
Despite the footage shown running on a PC, Kojima has confirmed that the footage shown today would be comparable to what will be seen from the PS3 and Xbox 360 version of the title. No release date has been mentioned.
As for where the title stands in relation to other entries, Kojima had this to say.
“We’re not going to say that it’s Metal Gear Solid 5,” Kojima stated, “but it is a prologue.”
Based upon on the footage, it takes place after “Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker” and the footage shown could potentially spoil “Peace Walker” for those who haven’t completed it, yet.
As we detailed earlier in the week, the demo opens with an in-engine, real-time cut scene set in a prison camp during a torrential rainstorm. The camera follows a shadowy figure that is well dressed accompanied by soldiers and guard dogs. He comes upon a young boy in a prison cell and throws the kid a portable music player which plays “Here’s to You” – the ending credits theme from “Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots”.
Visually, the lighting and rain effects are stunning given the subtle details which create a highly lifelike environment courtesy of Kojima’s FOX engine – watch the demonstration here.
During the PAX 2012 presentation, Kojima revealed additional details regarding “Ground Zeroes” gameplay. As you’ll notice in the footage, there are a number of APCs, helicopters, and other vehicles within the camp. Kojima stated that Snake can take control and pilot these vehicles. During the demo, Snake hops into a Jeep to evade an enemy tank.
Additionally, Kojima touched on how Snake can deploy a flare to call in a helicopter which will take him to new missions or other areas of interest. While airborne, players can customize the music played by the helicopter, also.
There is still much to learn about “Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes” but Kojima has certainly given “Metal Gear Solid” fans something to be excited over.
Confirmed: Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes is current gen – set for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC
