CD-R King has always been the, well, king when it comes to purveying small consumer techno-items such as USB drives, card readers, and CDs.
So I guess this was inevitable. You don’t really earn that much from an 80 peso optical mouse, and yet it eats up your sales personnel’s time, so… why not just dispense these cheap items via a vending machine?
And that’s just what you will see when you walk into CD-R King’s Technohub branch in Quezon City.
It’s a gargantuan vending machine with garish blue lighting. The machine accepts both paper bills and coins, and it looks easy to operate. Nobody seemed to want to try it though.
The machine coughs out optical mouse units (80 pesos), Bluetooth dongles (150 pesos), 4-port hubs (120 to 150 pesos), card readers (80 to 120 pesos), various micro SD cards, various USB sticks, and packs of writeable CDs.
I wasn’t able to check on how the warranty deal would be for these items though, given how CD-R King normally has this practice of plastering their warranty stickers onto your purchases on the spot.
Will CD-R King be rolling this out to its other stores? Probably. Will you be seeing standalone CD-R King vending machines on street corners and the like? That’s not impossible.
Will CD-R King be selling these vending machines? They probably should. After all, they sell practically everything else, including electric fans, mosquito zappers, fragrant wooden balls, spa oils, vases and knick knacks, paper clips and stationery, massagers and pillows, and…
